feeling without consuming any particular drug at a regular interval? Aren't
you able to resist yourself even after knowing the harm that it can do to you?
Then assuredly you are suffering from drug addiction.
Primarily,
let us learn about what "drug
abuse" is and why people are getting more addicted to drugs nowadays.
The main cause for a person to start taking a drug when he/she walks through a
life paved with lots of hardships,
failures and depressions.
Everyone has their type of hardships, struggles and failures in their lives.
Many may overcome all these obstacles and move towards success and a lot of
people continue to hold on their failures without finding a solution of it and
making their life hail. Now, when we are talking about success, then let me remind you that success is present in each sphere of life. Success is present not only in your academic life, but also in your working life, and even in your personal life. Regardless of any age, sex, background, an individual can get drug-addicted . But, many times we
can find out people trying with these types of drugs out of curiosity, adventure, excitement
because friends are doing so or to have relief from the stress and pressure from
various fields.

Now let's have look on various drugs either illegal or
prescribed that can be the reason for a person's addiction.
Some of them among illegal drugs are:
1. HEROIN
2. COCAINE
3. MARIJUANA
4. METHAMPHETAMINE
5. MDMA
6. KETAMINE
7. STEROIDS
8. LSD
9. ECSTASY
All these illegal drugs cause various serious types of
diseases. Some of them like:
Marijuana smoking
causes deposition of tar in a huge
amount much more than that of consumption
of cigarette. This causes a great chance of getting exposed to cancer due
to highly carcinogenic tar getting
entry in the smoker's body.
Methamphetamine
causes a rapid change in the outward appearance in the face with rotten teeth. Furthermore, it affects
the CNS.
If one is cocaine-addicted,
he might not be able to notice the change immeth teeth but will also have a high risk of getting exposed to a heart attack. Effectiveness of CNS and the brain's hormone Dopamine would be get changed and altered.

Other
types of drugs cause a similar type of effect on the body either by increasing
the risk of cancer or affecting the CNS, or causing physical disorder, disrupting
sleep, anxiety, anger and roughness.
There may various type of drugs that may not be illegal but
due to misuse of it, those can cause harm and expose to some severe danger.
Some are:-
1.
OPIOIDS
2.
STIMULANTS
3.
SLEEPING PILLS
4.
PAINKILLERS
5.
TRANQUILIZERS
Some side-effects of the excessive overdose of these drugs
are as follows:-
SLEEPING PILLS
can cause impairment and numbness in body parts. Day-drowsiness is a common problem when you are taking sleeping
pills and can't ensure a good 7 hours
sleep. Sleepwalking and amnesia are some common cause due to
overdose of sleeping pills. Losing control of your body can also happen. In the
case of extreme, death or cancer can
also happen.
PAINKILLERS
causes harm to the respiratory system
with restricted and difficult breathing. Besides respiratory problems, drowsiness, mental fogginess, nausea,
constipation, dizziness are also some of the side effects that happen depending
upon the amount or intensity of drug inhaled.
With the advancement of health science, remedies for every
disease are coming out. Similarly, some sort of medication has also been
available for all these drug-addicted people. They may either get completely
healed or partially healed.
If a drug-addicted person wants to get recovered, the
primary measure that he/she must keep in mind that this treatment is very
critical and can be cured with the patient's
determination. One single medicine or any particular therapy doesn't cure
that person. A person gets cured faster once that person gets determined of
what to do, i.e. to stop consuming drugs at any cost. Various therapies and
medicinal treatment would be done, but the patient himself/herself have to stop
drug inhalation.
Besides these various types of behavioral counsellings are
conducted, to test the change in behavior with the start of treatment and
medication. The patient has to be taken constant and intense care. Besides
these the steps for medication are as follows:
1.
DETOXIFICATION:
This is the process in which consumption of a drug is reduced and various types
of uncomfortable symptoms like anxiety,
anger, depression, hallucination, sweating, vomiting occur. This is the
withdrawal effect on the person's body.
2.
BEHAVIOURAL
COUNSELLING: Here the behavioral specialists observe the patients, detect
the negativities and point out those to the patient. Furthermore, the
counsellor gives various therapies to perform to treat. Among these therapies daily exercise, involving oneself much in regular work, spending more time with
families, reduction of mental stress and pressure are all included.
3.
MEDICATION:
For opioids, Methadone, buprenorphine
and naltrexone are used for opioid treatment. For nicotine treatment, bupropion
and varenicline are the two prescribed medication that works differently in
the brain to repair and activate the brain cells. For alcohol, Naltrexone, Acamprosate, Disulfiram are some of the drugs
that are used for the treatment.
4.
Treatment
for various mental health issues
like anxiety, depression, hallucination,
etc.
5. Long term check-up
26th June is celebrated day as
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with the motto to “SPREAD
AWARENESS & SAY NO TO DRUGS”
The conclusion of drug addiction
is not clear to many people. We fail to understand that it is a chronic disease
which is indeed hard to control and not something which we can simply choose to
stop any day. It affects the brain in such a way that recovery becomes really tough.
It is thus right said that “Prevention is better than cure”. Hence it is always
easy and better to control our self from our initial decision to start taking
drug rather than trying to recover from a worse state. The more we understand,
the safer it is for us and the people we care for.
